Unique process solution for the Vostochny Opencast Coal Mine

Sibanthricite Group is Russia’s largest producer of metallurgical coal and world leader in the production and export of high quality UHG anthracite.

The mine was faced with the challenge of reducing environmental impact and improving the sized coal production process from ROM anthracite. To this end, the company had to develop and start three stationary crushing and screening plants to prepare anthracite and separate target coal sizes of 0–6 mm, 0–10 mm, 0–13 mm, 6–20 mm, 13–25 mm, 20–40 mm, 25–80 mm from ROM coal.

The task Sever Minerals was charged with was not easy since the moisture of ROM coal was unstable, with varying strength, making it difficult to screen.

The process solution developed by the company’s engineers was to apply stationary crushing and screening plants instead of mobile ones. The main benefits include the improved yield of sized, most marginal, commercial fractions, which is achieved by excluding additional coal handling operations inherent in less efficient mobile plants, and reduced operating expenditure thanks to a smaller fleet of loading equipment, and less space required compared to multiple mobile plants used for each process.

Sever Minerals' solution included engineering services, delivery of equipment, installation supervision, and commissioning.

  • 3D modelling in a variety of software environments
  • Delivery of more than 40 pieces of equipment
  • Electrical equipment and automation

At this point, two plants are in operation. These have demonstrated excellent results surpassing the guarantee performance by 30 % and reaching 600 tph per unit.

The third plant was installed and commissioned in May 2023.
