Installation of cone crusher at Stoilensky Mining and Processing Plant

NLMK Group is one of the leading producers of iron ore and pig iron in Russia and a major supplier of iron abroad. The Group is not afraid to use up-to-date technology; it can rightly be called a leader in innovation.

In order to solve NLMK Group’s task of increasing quartzite processing volumes from 37 to 42 million tons and concentrate production up to 20 million tons per year, Sever Minerals engineers suggested upgrading the crushing facility at the secondary and fine crushing section with one of the largest and most efficient Metso Outotec MP-1250 conical crushers.

Distinctive features of this crusher are both its high capacity, which for Stoilensky MBP is more than 1,000 tons per hour when set for fine crushing, and also such features as the ability to release uncrushed material (rotary bowl and a large inlet opening).

To properly integrate the new equipment into the existing process, the design department prepared a 3D model of the Line 8 area of the medium and fine crushing facility, which included the design of steel structures, foundations, and equipment. Thanks to this model, a clear plan of work was made before installation.

Increasing productivity through modernization of the crushing facility

Project

The crusher installation project was carried out on a turnkey basis. Sever Minerals experts carried out engineering work, developed drawings and diagrams in accordance with the customer’s terms of reference (integrate the crusher into the existing production line), and supervised the installation and commissioning.

  • Project Implementation: Date October 2020
  • Feed: Non-oxidized iron-ore quartzites.
  • Material Density3.5 +/- 0.2 t/m3
  • Humidity up to 3%
  • Equipment InstalledMetso Outotec Mp-1250 Fine Conical Crusher
  • Distinctive features of this crusher are both its high capacity, which for Stoilensky MBP is more than 1,000 tons per hour when set for fine crushing

Installation of the crusher began on August 22 and was completed on October 15, 2020. All the declared performance characteristics were confirmed by test run. Service is provided by Sever Minerals service department. After nine months of operation, the equipment was showing good results, producing significantly more finished grade product per hour, and the customer decided to continue upgrading crushing line 8 by replacing another crusher on it with a Nordberg® MP1250, complete with MF3673−1 Linear Motion Mining Screen. The contract for this supply was signed on June 16, 2021
